MEDITATION AND THERAPY ... THERAPY AND MEDITATION MEDITATION

This site promotes therapy as a stepping stone to meditation. Therapy can be very useful for ironing out some of life's problems. It can indeed sort out those panic attacks, get you a new pattern of relating or redirect that obsessive eating, and this does indeed lead to a better quality of life.

But it will not scratch the fundamental itch of being human. However many solutions are found there is always just one more thing to get or become. This is the point where meditation comes in. Therapy is: of and within the mind, and the mind IS the problem; personality/ego is the problem. Meditation is beyond the mind.

It can take some time to come to this realisation; the bandaid of therapy can be seductive. Yes! just one more workshop and I will have got it. And the sensationalism of the grouproom can be much more enticing than the so called discipline of meditation.

So yes! do the therapy and burn it out. And when you are ready let it lead you to the next step: MEDITATION.

Below is a brief description of the main meditation techniques. These meditations are done with music. For more information or to buy the instruction CD's go to:       www.osho.com

Osho Dynamic Meditation:

  • 10 minutes. Breathing chaotically through the nose, let the breathing become intense, deep, fast without rhythm, with no pattern - and concentrating always on the exhalation. The body will take care of the inhilation. the breath should move deeply into the lungs. Do this as fast and as hard as you possibly can, until you literally become the breathing. Use your natural body movements to help you build up your energy. Feel it building up but dont let go during the first stage.
  • 10 minutes. Explode! Let go of everything that needs to be thrown out. Follow your body. Give your body freedom to express whatever is there. Go totally mad. Scream, shout, cry jump, kick, shake, dance, sing, laugh, throw yourself around. Hold nothing bac: keep your whole body moving. A little acting helps to get you started. Never allow your mind to interfer with what is happening. Consciously go mad. Be total.
  • 10 minutes. With hands raised high above your head jump up and down shouting the mantra 'Hoo! Hoo! Hoo! as deeply as possible. Each time you land on the flats of your fee, let the sound hammer deep into your sex centre. Give all you have. exhaust yourself completely.
  • 15 minutes. STOP! Freeze wherever you are, in whatever position you find yourself. Dont arrange the body in any wayA cough, a movement, anything, will dissapate the energy flow and the effort will be lost.  Be a witness to everything that is happening to you.
  • 15 minutes. Celebrate! With music and dance express whatsoever is there. Carry your aliveness with you throughout he day.

Osho Kundalini Meditation:

  • 15 minutes. Be loose and let your whole body shake, feeling the energies moving up from your feet. Let go everywhere and become the shaking. Your eyes may be open or closed.
  • 15 minutes. Dance anyway you feel, and let the whole body move as it wishes. Your eyes may be open or closed.
  • 15 minutes. Close your eyes and be still, sitting or standing - witness whatever is happening inside and out.
  •  15 minutes. Keeping eyes closed lie down and be still.

Osho Nadabrahma Meditation:

  •  30 minutes. Sit in a relaxed position with eyes closed and lips together. Start humming - loud enough so that if anyone were sitting close to you they would be able to hear it - and create a vibration throughout your body. You can visualise an empty tube or empty vessel filled only with the vibrations of the humming. A point will come when the humming continues by itself and you become the listener. There is no special breathing and you can alter the pitch or move your body smoothly and slowly if you feel it happening naturally.
  • 15 minutes. The second stage is divided into two 7 1/2 minute sections. For the first half move the hands palms up, in an outward circular motion. Starting at the nave, both hands move forward and then divide to make two large circles mirroring each other left and right. The movement should be so slow that at times there will appear to be no movement at all. Feel that you are giving energy outward to the universe.
  • After 71/2 minutes turn the hands palm down and start moving them in the opposite direction. Now the hands will come together towards the navel and divide outwards to the sides of the body. Feel that you are taking energy in.
As in the first stage don't inhibit any soft slow movements of the rest of your body.
  • 15 minutes. Now stop the hand movements and just sit still relaxed.

There are a lot more meditations but these are the main ones. Notice that they are all active and expressive. This is because they are designed for the modern man in a pressurised and stressed society. Although it depends on the individual, It is no longer so appropriate to do silent meditations that were designed for a quieter mind and more agricultural society.
